About my work

 

The search for the essence of my creative world consists of a continuous alternation between pulling back and then thrusting forward into new spheres, between disappointments and new discoveries. While on the one hand, this process takes place in my mind, I feel it in my body as well – a rollercoaster of emotions.

I have to be emotionally moved. When I have gotten to this point, then I know I am on my way.

 

As a sculptor, I am very engaged with both my hands and my eyes. Awareness and my powers of observation demand a total physical presence.

My works emerge in a reduced formal language and out of a dialogue with the material. Frequently, I work with found objects, developing them formally, allowing them to function as a source of inspiration.

 

Leaving previous marks in the material as I have found it, making new marks, becoming aware of the negative spaces and consciously considering them as integral to the work,

all these are aspects that are vital to my artistic process as a sculptor.

 

For me, photography is the connecting link between my two- and three-dimensional works. The lens is my eye, the way I see the world.

 

Small, sometimes seemingly insignificant gestures – these are what interest me, these are what ultimately move me.

 

My work  “mare” is out of a series of five large-scale photographs that originated on the Ligurian coast. Limited edition of five prints per photograph. 

 

The ocean is a wealth of inspiration for me, surging with energy and a fearsome unpredictability, and possessing a power of expression that is many layers deep.

 

Time after time, heeding the call of an inner urge, I am drawn to the seashore – there where the breakers pound, where a blanket of sea foam covers what is old and then proceeds to uncover a new world which was hidden, where everything remains movement and constant change is the order of the day.

​Persönliche Gedanken  über meine Arbeit

​

„Mare“ ein Werk aus einer Serie von fünf grossformatigen Fotografien, welche an der ligurischen Küste entstanden sind.

Das fotografische Werk ist limitiert auf 5 Exemplare per Bild

 

Das Meer, für mich ein Reichtum an Inspiration, Energie, Unberechenbarkeit und vielschichtiger Ausdruckskraft.

 

Einem inneren Drang folgend zieht es mich ab und an immer wieder an die Meeresküste.

Den Ort wo die Wellen brechen, da wo die Gischt altes überdeckt und neues zum Vorschein bringt, wohl wissend, dass alles in Bewegung bleibt und stetige Veränderungen das Gesamtbild prägt.

All dies steht als Metapher für mein Schaffen.

 

Die Suche nach dem Kern meiner schöpferischen Gedankenwelt ist ein stetiger Wechsel von sich zurückziehen und wieder vordringen in neuen Sphären, von Enttäuschungen und Entdeckungen. Dieser künstlerische Prozess findet nicht nur in meinem Kopf statt sondern ist auch physisch spürbar, ein Wechselbad der Gefühle.

Ich muss innerlich berührt werden, erst wenn ich dieses Gefühl verspüre bin ich auf dem richtigen Weg.

 

Als Bildhauer arbeite ich stark mit meinen Händen und mit meinen Augen. Mein ganzer Körper fordert Präsenz in der Wahrnehmung und in der Beobachtungsgabe.

 

In einer reduzierten Formensprache und im Dialog mit dem Material entstehen meine Arbeiten. Oft sind es ausgesuchte Fundstücke, welche mir als Inspirationsquelle dienen und die ich formal weiter entwickle.

Im Material Spuren belassen und neue Spuren setzen, den Zwischenraum wahrnehmen und ihn bewusst als Teil des Werkes zu betrachten sind elementare Teile in meinem bildhauerischen Arbeitsprozess.

Die Fotografie ist für mich das Verbindungsglied zwischen meinen dreidimensionalen und zweidimensionalen Arbeiten, die Linse mein Auge wie ich die Welt sehe.

Es sind die kleinen, teils unscheinbaren Gesten, welche mich interessieren und berühren.
